Oklahoma City police arrested a woman Thursday morning on child neglect charges after police say she left her 2-year-old son and her baby home alone.

An anonymous caller told police that a small child and an infant had been left home alone at an apartment. When officers arrived at the scene and knocked on the door, a 2-year-old boy opened the door and officers say they could hear a baby crying from the bedroom area.

The baby was lying in her crib in the bedroom and had a wet diaper on, according to police.

An officer then placed the children in his scout car, and called DHS.

The suspect, 24-year-old Lashawn Ervin, returned to the apartment as the officer was grabbing a blanket for the baby. She said she had left to go pick up a friend and to get some diapers, and that she wasn't going to be gone that long.

Ervin was taken into custody on one count of child neglect. The children were taken into protective custody at the juvenile shelter.
