OKC Officials Break Ground On $9M Multi-Use Trail

Oklahoma City officials Tuesday broke ground on a $9 million multi-use trail the city says will eventually help link 100-miles of trails.

The "West River Trail" will begin where the Lake Overholser Trail ends at N.W. 10th Street. The trail will follow the North Canadian River South under Reno and I-40.

It will also wrap around Crystal Lake. The $9 million project will come out of the $77 million MAPS 3 budget.

"It's great for families," said local exercise enthusiast and businessman Hal McKnight. "It's a wonderful solution to our problem of being a little overweight in Oklahoma City. It's an active lifestyle you see in other cities, but we're getting there."

The West River Trail is scheduled to be ready by the end of 2014.
