OKLAHOMA CITY -

The first arctic blast of the season arrives in Oklahoma Monday night. A powerful cold front will push through northern Oklahoma around 4:00 p.m., central Oklahoma round 7:00 p.m. and southern Oklahoma around 10 p.m.

Along the front, there will be a chance for showers with best chances in central and southern OK. There will be a brief opportunity for a wintry mix overnight, but accumulations are not expected. The big story with this front will be the cold air and fierce north winds.

Monday night, lows will drop into the 20s and low 30s with a freeze likely across most of northern Oklahoma. When you factor in the stout north wind, wind chills will be in the teens and low 20s Tuesday morning. Strong north winds at 20-25 miles an hour will cause temperatures to feel like the 20s all day long Tuesday despite sunshine and actual air temps in the low 40s.

Wednesday morning, winds will calm down and temperatures are expected to plummet. Lows will drop into the lower and mid 20s triggering our first hard freeze of the season. This will bring the 2013 growing season to an end for most of Oklahoma.

Temperatures will slowly rebound through the rest of the week before our next cold blast arrives next week.
