Sooners Swept By Iowa State, Drop Third Straight Match

Iowa State swept Oklahoma Saturday night in Ames, sending the Sooners to their third straight loss in Big 12 play.

The University of Oklahoma volleyball team was swept by No. 25 Iowa State on Saturday evening; 14-25, 22-25 and 24-26. The Sooners dropped to 18-7 on the season and 6-5 in the Big 12, while the Cyclones improved to 16-6 and 9-2.

Oklahoma is now 2-3 against ranked opponents in 2013 as it split the season series with Iowa State. The Sooners have also lost three consecutive matches for the first time since dropping four straight in 2011 between October 29 and November 12.

The Cyclones cruised in the first set as they outhit Oklahoma, .481-.086. The Sooners made a run at Iowa State in the second set as they trailed by as many as six, but trimmed the Cyclone lead to two points on three occasions. In the third set, Oklahoma led 20-19, but was unable to hold on and force a fourth set.

Mackenzie Bigbee led ISU with 13 kills and a .370 hitting percentage, followed by Ciara Capezio with 11 kills. For the OU, senior middle blocker Sallie McLaurin tallied a team-high nine kills and hit .318.

Midway through the first set, McLaurin notched her third kill of the match to take over eighth all-time at OU in career kills. She passed Kerri Mulry (1985-88) and finished the match with 1,250 in her career. McLaurin also surpassed her own career-high for kills in a season of 328, which now ranks fourth in the record book behind her current total of 337.

Sophomore libero Taylor Migliazzo picked up a team-leading 11 digs for the Sooners, while the Cyclones were led by Kristen Hahn with 21. Oklahoma posted eight blocks to Iowa State's three, led by McLaurin and sophomore setter Julia Doyle with four apiece. Doyle also led the OU offense with 28 assists. ISU was led by a 40-assist effort from Jenelle Hudson.
