BETHEL ACRES, Oklahoma -

Habitat for Humanity finished its first house for victims of the May tornadoes, just three weeks after construction began.

Saturday morning, Joel and Bettie Spears got the keys to their new house, built on the lot next to their old house. The original house was destroyed in the tornado and couple has been living in a pair of campers since then.

Joel Spears said he and his wife have watched the construction during the last three weeks. He was at the site every day, from helping hoist the first wall frames to the finishing paint.

"I've been up here every day. Anything I can do to help them, I'm willing to do it and I'm still willing to help them," said Spears. "We've had so much help."

One of the campers the Spears were have called home for the past few months was donated by a man in Tulsa, who used it after losing his house in a wildfire. Now the Spears are ready to pass the camper on to other tornado victims.

"We've already found a family that's in and out of campers and tents and things like that over off of the highway over here," explained Spears.

The Spears will close on the house this week and be moved in by Thanksgiving. They plan on hosting their family for the holiday. Bettie Spears said it will be the first time in a long time that they will all be able to be in the same place.

Habitat for Humanity wants anyone affected by the tornadoes to give them a call because they have a lot of resources. They plan to build 400 homes for tornado victims during the next five years and say many people who do not think they will qualify, actually may be good fits.
