Police: OKC Woman Demands Popcorn From Kids, Assaults Witnesses

A woman found herself in the Oklahoma County jail after witnesses said she tried to snatch popcorn from children, and bit an apartment manager.

Police were called Wednesday to an apartment complex on N.W. 10th Street near MacArthur Boulevard. The manager of the complex said the trouble started when she heard 32-year-old Shanika Dawkins yelling outside her office. She said Dawkins was screaming and cursing at several children, demanding they give her their popcorn.

The manager said Dawkins then stumbled toward the office, still demanding popcorn. The manager said she thought Dawkins was going to fall while walking up the steps, so she reached out to help her. Dawkins fell against the woman's chest, and the manager said that's when Dawkins bit her above her right breast.

The woman said Dawkins then pushed her back into the office and out the back door. Outside, they encountered another woman. Dawkins began yelling at the second witness, "[Expletive], you better give me my [expletive]!"

The woman said she had no idea what Dawkins was talking about, so she just stood there. She said that's when Dawkins walked up to her and punched her in the face. She said Dawkins then began scratching her.

The victim managed to push her away, and both she and the apartment manager ran back into the office to call police.

Officers arrested Dawkins on two counts of assault and battery.
