A man who wanted to commit suicide by blowing himself up outside the Chickasha Walmart is at a hospital being evaluated, police say.

Witnesses called Chickasha Police Friday morning just before 9 a.m. when they saw 42-year-old Michael Brown acting suspiciously in the parking lot. He was sitting in his pickup truck, pounding his head on the steering wheel and the seat.

When police arrived, they removed Brown from the truck. His legs were wrapped in duct tape. Officers saw a plastic bucket with wires coming out of it in the cab of the truck with. They also smelled a strong odor of some type of flammable liquid.

Police decided to call in the Oklahoma Highway Patrol's bomb squad, and evacuate the Walmart. With the help of the Grady County Sheriff's Office, police taped off an area around the truck and the suspicious device.

The bomb squad arrived and searched the vehicle. They found no explosives and gave the "all clear." The store was reopened, along with traffic on nearby roads.

Police say Brown doused himself in gasoline or some other flammable liquid. He reportedly told police he planned to kill himself by blowing himself up. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for medical treatment and evaluation.

The suspect had an address in Ponca City, but it's believed he was homeless and staying in the Chickasha area. He was arrested in the past for DUI and vandalism.
