The University of Central Oklahoma's Chinese Students Organization presented Oklahomans with the annual ‘China Night' event Sunday night.

The event took place at 6:30 p.m. at the Constitution Hall, located at Nigh University Center on the UCO campus in Edmond. It was free and open to the public.

A traditional Chinese lion dance kicked off the event. Ancient Chinese dances, folk songs, and martial arts were just some of the special performances the Chinese students at UCO showcased.

Those who attended the event also got to experience the music of bamboo and gourd flutes, the Chinese zither, as well as a piano battle between two UCO students from China.

Hundreds of event-goers were also able to learn about Chinese culture as the emcees of the event introduced each performer to the stage.

"Three months ago, everyone was uncertain about how big China Night would go for this year.," said Bruce Wang, Vice President of the UCO International Student Council. "There were a lot of struggles, like applying and balancing our budget, training performers who didn't have any stage background, and cancel some shows while people had already put effort into them. Fortunately, it turned into something greater than what we imagined."

Besides cultural performances, those who attended the event had a taste of cuisines from the Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in southwestern China, catered by Sze Chuan Bistro restaurant in Oklahoma City.

About 450 people attended the event.

According to UCO, Chinese students make up nearly a fifth of all international students at the university. In 2013, the university saw a rise in international enrollment of nearly eight percent.

If you missed out on "China Night," UCO will be hosting the Fall 2013 "International Festival" at the Nigh University Center from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 14.
