Oklahoma State Falls At Baylor

WACO, Texas – Oklahoma State's five-game unbeaten streak came to an end Friday night as Baylor knocked off the Cowgirls, 1-0, at Betty Lou Mays Field.

With the loss, the Cowgirls fall to 6-4-6 overall and into seventh place in the Big 12 Conference standings at 1-2-3. Baylor snapped a six-match winless streak and improved to 9-5-3 and 2-4-1 in the league.

BU scored the game's lone goal just 3:06 in. After a free kick from just inside midfield was sent into the box, a pair of OSU defenders jumped to try and head the ball away. However, the header ricocheted off one of the Cowgirls right to the Bears' Ashley York, who delivered a shot from eight-yards out for her fifth goal of the season.

OSU managed just three shots in the opening half, with two of those were on goal. The Cowgirls' best scoring opportunity came on a Kristen Kelley shot from 22-yards out in the 25th minute, but a diving save by BU goalie Michelle Kloss kept the visitors off the scoreboard.

In the second half, OSU's attack created five shots but once again failed to find the back of the net. The Cowgirls had a pair of opportunities during a short period early in the second half, but a blast from Krissi Killion was blocked by a BU defender before Delaney Kiely's header following the subsequent corner kick went wide of the mark.

Kloss tallied two more saves in the final 10:05, stopping a header by Natalie Calhoun and a left-footed attempt by Miriam Rhinehart in the 87th minute to preserve the shutout.

The Bears finished with a 10-8 shots advantage, while OSU had a 5-0 edge on corner kicks.

OSU returns to action Sunday with its final regular-season home match of the season when the Cowgirls take on Kansas at noon.

Sooners Fall In Heartbreaker

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma soccer team dropped a 2-1 double-overtime heartbreaker to No. 9 West Virginia on Friday night at the OU Soccer Complex. The Sooners (4-12-1, 1-6-0 Big 12) hung fast with the Mountaineers (13-2-2, 7-0-0 Big 12) for over 101 minutes of play, but fell on a sudden-death goal from Kate Schwindel. With the victory, WVU clinched their second-consecutive Big 12 regular season title.

The Sooners posted a quiet first half offensively as the Mountaineers held a 7-1 shot advantage heading into halftime. Oklahoma goalkeeper Kassadie Stade posted an outstanding first half, making five athletic saves to keep WVU off the board and OU in the match. Stade finished the match with seven total saves, tying her career high on the season.

OU quickly showed life on offense in the second half as the Sooners began to challenge Mountaineer goalkeeper Sara Keane. Oklahoma struck in the 63rd minute when Shiloh Price drove toward the WVU goal on a pass from Madison Saliba. After Price's initial shot was saved but not controlled by Keane, Sooner forward Daisy Cardona swooped in to send the ball into the net and post her team-high fifth goal of the season.

The tempo of the match increased as OU tried to maintain their 1-0 advantage. West Virginia responded 16 minutes later when Frances Silva drove in a goal on an assist from Amanda Hall past Stade's right side to snap up the equalizer. Both teams continued to battle in an attempt to avoid an overtime situation, but the deadlock held steady to send Oklahoma to their third overtime match of the season.

Both teams traded fouls as they struggled to gain the upper hand in the first overtime, but neither squad could turn an offensive opportunity into a goal. The match proceeded to a second overtime where the battle continued until the 101st minute of action. WVU's Kate Schwindel drove past Oklahoma's defenders on an assist from Silva to net a goal and end the match in favor of the Mountaineers.

Oklahoma will travel to Kansas for its regular season finale next weekend, facing the Jayhawks in a must-win Big 12 battle in Lawrence, Kan. The Sooners and KU will face off at 3 p.m. CT on a Nov. 1 match with conference championship implications.

Tulsa Women's Soccer Team Battles UAB To Tie

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Tulsa women's soccer team tied UAB, 0-0, on Friday night at West Campus Field in Birmingham, Ala. TU moved to 9-6-2 on the season and 3-3-2 in Conference USA, while the Blazers moved to 10-5-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the league.

The two teams battled for 110 minutes and combined for eight shots on goal, but neither team could find the back of the net.

Bradi Hinch and Kajal Parmar led the Tulsa attack with two shots apiece, while four others had one attempt. Hayley Harryman logged all 110 minutes between the posts, recorded three saves and earned her ninth shutout on the season.

UAB had a 12-8 lead in shots, but TU had a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal and an 11-3 lead in corner kicks.

Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 27 against Marshall. Game time is set for 12 p.m. in Huntington, W.Va.

ORU blasts Bears 4-1

TULSA, Okla. – Madison Valenzuela netted two goals to help the Oral Roberts University women's soccer team clinch a Southland Conference Tournament bid as the Golden Eagles topped Central Arkansas, 4-1, at the Case Soccer Complex.

ORU improved its overall record to 13-4-0 and moved its conference mark to 8-2-0. With their 13 victories, the Golden Eagles have earned the second-most wins in a season in program history.

With three matches remaining, UCA will have to battle into the conference tournament as the Bears fell to 7-8-2 overall and 4-5-0 in Southland play.

Senior Jennifer Abernathy continues to move up the all-time goal scorers list at ORU as she scored the opening goal in the 17th minute. Megan Giles crossed the ball along the endline into the box, and after a touch by Tahlor Lyman, Abernathy placed the ball in the net for her ninth of the season.

Abernathy now has 21 career goals, tying her with Kari (Harrison) Shoemaker and Heather Hall for the fourth most in school history.

Shortly before halftime, Kayla Nsien placed a ball perfectly from 40 yards out when she found Valenzuela in front of the net. Valenzuela had no problem as she slipped the ball by the UCA keeper to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0.

The Golden Eagles got a little help from the Bears in the 57th minute. On a corner kick by Ashley Martin, the ball deflected off UCA midfielder Allie Coleman's hip and went into the net for an own goal.

Just 59 seconds after Kristin Pollard gave the Bears their first goal of the night in the 84th minute, Valenzuela answered with her second of the evening as she collected the ball in the box, blasting it into the lower right corner of the net for the match's final tally.

Defending Southland Goalkeeper of the Week Maddie Rhodes (8-3) had yet another stellar contest as she recorded five saves, including knocking down a penalty kick midway through the second half. Lyndzey Goff was credit with the loss, picking up four saves in the match.

The Golden Eagles have a day to rest before they host Northwestern State at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Case Soccer Complex.
