OKC Police Identify Man Who Died In Custody

Police have released the name of a man who died after struggling with neighbors and being taken into custody by Oklahoma City officers.

Police have released the name of a man who died after struggling with neighbors and being taken into custody by Oklahoma City officers.

Residents in a neighborhood near S.E. 33rd Street and Byers called police October 21 when a man who appeared to be intoxicated tried to break into several houses and cars. Neighbors held the man down until police arrived.

That man has been identified as 45-year-old Randall Roy Haynes. When officers took Haynes into custody, he stopped breathing. Police called for an ambulance. Paramedics rushed Haynes to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of Haynes' death is not yet known. The Medical Examiner's Office will determine how he died.

Police later learned Haynes was driving a stolen car when he was taken into custody, and had several felony warrants.
