Oklahoma Congressman Among Those Who Voted To Reopen Government

Posted: Updated:

Oklahoma's Congressional delegation, for the most part, was opposed to any budget deal that didn't include changes to Obamacare.

There was one member, however, who voted in favor of the bill to reopen the government. Five of Oklahoma's seven representatives in Washington voted against the bipartisan deal. Senator Inhofe, because he's recovering from heart surgery, couldn't vote.

The lone Oklahoman to vote for the measure was the 4th District's Tom Cole. I spoke with him on the phone on Thursday. He explained that, he was against the shutdown from the beginning, as he worried about the impact it would have on many of his constituents.

Tinker Air Force Base is in his district. He says he's not a fan of Obamacare, and agrees with the goal of trying to defund it, but says this was the wrong way to do it, it was destined to fail.

He says the bill that was passed isn't a great bill, but it has the potential to move the nation forward.

Cole says nobody in Washington looks good after this, and he says, until both parties in Congress, and the President can sit down and work together, they will all continue to get low marks from the public, he believes there will be better cooperation on this next round of budget talks.
