My 2 Cents: Kids Learn To Stand Against Bullying

Posted: Updated:

I love the expression "to whom much is given, much is expected." It's biblical you know, and it's right.

I bring it up because it's time for the teenagers who've been blessed with popularity, academic or artistic talent, or athletic ability to give back, and I'm talking about giving back to any of their classmates who might be struggling, especially those who are being bullied.

I agree with so much of what Paul Coughlin the Founder of an anti-bullying group called "The Protectors" has written. His group doesn't focus on trying to change the bullies, but on prompting bystanders to heroic action and standing alongside those who are being mistreated.

Parents it's our responsibility to make sure our kids understand they are to be protectors just as they would wish to be protected if they were being bullied.

Coughlin points to a young man in Minnesota, a captain on his high school football team, who got so sick of classmates being cyber-bullied online that he started a Twitter account called Osseo Nice Things, where students post only things they like about specific classmates. Isn't that cool?!

Every school should have one of those!
