Accused Killer Completed Community Service At Edmond Church Before Murder

Timothy Slawson, the man accused of killing a woman and dumping her body along a Guthrie road, completed 50 hours of community service at Waterloo Road Baptist Church in Edmond just before he allegedly committed the crime. 

Slawson's community service was part of a deferred sentence for a 2012 burglary and vandalism conviction in Logan County. Waterloo Road Baptist Church declined to comment on Slawson's involvement at the church out of respect for certain members of its congregation. A letter signed by the church's building manager confirms Slawson completed the community service. The letter is dated October 9 -- the day before the murder.

Court records indicate Slawson was also ordered to seek counseling and was still on probation when he allegedly shot and killed Mindy Carder.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office tells News 9 Slawson was in compliance with his probation before the alleged killing. 

Just a few houses down from 3400 Hollie Chapel Road, the area where Mindy Carder was shot and killed on October 10, 2013, Slawson's family is living in shock. Slawson's brother, Dan, said they were surprised by the murder allegations but declined to comment further until more information is made available.

Investigators claim Slawson looked up prostitutes online and called to have one meet him at his home at 3233 Eric Lane in Logan County. Court records show Slawson told investigators he decided to kill the prostitute with a knife or by strangling her.

When Carder arrived with Erin Smith and Pierre Whiteside, Slawson allegedly changed his plan. Investigators say Smith allegedly negotiated a price for Slawson to have sex with Carder. Before it got that far, investigators say Slawson shot Carder while the other two got away.

The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner determined Carder died from multiple gunshot wounds. The Logan County Sheriff's office confirmed Smith and Whiteside are now witnesses in the state's murder case against Slawson.

At this point, Richard Stephens, a spokesperson for the Logan County Sheriff Office, says investigators are not pursuing criminal charges against Smith or Whiteside, although both allegedly aided Carder in prostitution. Under Oklahoma Law, if someone dies during the commission of a crime. all involved in the illegal act could be punished.

Logan County District Attorney Tom Lee said it's an ongoing investigation, and recommendation for charges against the two have been not been submitted to his office. 

Slawson is being held without bond at the Logan County Detention Center for the first-degree murder of Carder. He is also charged with manslaughter in the death of her unborn baby.
