TULSA, Oklahoma -

Oklahoma native and country music star Blake Shelton has donated thousands of dollars to a program designed to introduce kids in the Sooner State to the great outdoors.

After a concert in Tulsa on October 4, Shelton presented a check for $20,000 to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. The donation will be used to support the department's outdoor education programs.

The programs introduce children to the outdoor lifestyle that Blake has always enjoyed.

"I grew up out in the country, and life is just better lived outdoors," said Blake. "The Wildlife Department's youth education efforts are an important way to get kids back outdoors."

The wildlife department is in charge of conserving fish and wildlife in Oklahoma. Unlike other state agencies, it receives no state tax appropriation. It is funded primarily through hunting and fishing licenses, and the sale of certain sporting goods.
