A man lying on railroad tracks was struck and killed by a train early Sunday morning in Tulsa. Police are working to identify the man who was killed at about 4 a.m. in the 700 block North Memorial Drive.

The tracks are located in North Tulsa just south of the airport.

"They saw him; they tried stopping the train but as everybody knows - trains these size can't stop on a dime," said Corporal Dan Miller, Tulsa Police Department.

Miller estimated the BNSF train was at least half a mile long.

The man is described as a clean cut white male in his late 20s or early 30s. Police don't know if he had been walking down the tracks or had fallen off a bridge above the tracks at Highway 11.

Traffic investigators were called in to work the fatality incident, Miller said.
