Sooners Swept On The Road By Kansas

The Sooners dropped to 2-2 in Big 12 play after being swept on the road by the Jayhawks Wednesday night.

The University of Oklahoma volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at Kansas on Wednesday evening. The Sooners dropped to 14-4 overall and evened their record in the Big 12 to 2-2.

Oklahoma's straight-sets loss was just the third of the season as the Jayhawks (14-3, 4-0) claimed victories of 25-23, 25-15 and 25-23.

The Sooners led by as many as six at 17-11 in the first, but could not hold on as the Jayhawks won each of the last five points to claim the set, 25-23. After hitting .308 in the first, Oklahoma hit just .049 in the second, falling 25-15. Kansas edged out the Sooners in the third set, 25-23, with a 3-1 run after the Sooners tied the match at 22.

Senior middle blocker Sallie McLaurin and sophomore outside hitter Kierra Holst led the Sooners with 10 kills apiece. McLaurin has now reached double figures in 15 of 18 matches, but saw a streak of five straight matches hitting over .400 end as she netted a .391 attack rate.

Reigning Big 12 Player of the Week Sara McClinton led the way for Kansas with a match-high 16 kills. Caroline Jarmoc and Chelsea Albers also reached double figures with 11 each. Jarmoc and McLaurin tied for the match lead in blocks at four.

Erin McNorton dished out 48 assists for the Jayhawks, while sophomore Julia Doyle recorded 23 for the Sooners.

Brianne Riley posted a match-high 17 digs for Kansas, which held the overall lead in the match, 55-41, while sophomore libero Taylor Migliazzo notched 11 for Oklahoma.

For the match, KU outhit OU, .347 to .190.

The Sooners return to action Saturday night against Kansas State at 7 p.m. in McCasland Field House.
