Neighbors Call Out OKC Police, City For Dangerous Road Following Hit-And-Run

A 15-year-old girl is on the mend after being hit by a car while waiting for her school bus Monday. Now, residents in the northeast OKC neighborhood are calling on the police and city to do more about a dangerous stretch of N.E. 122nd Street near Sooner Road.

Police are still searching for the driver. The speed limit along N.E. 122nd in the area is 35 mph to 45 mph, but neighbors say drivers treat it like a four-lane highway.

"It's bad, real bad," area resident Jim Perkins said.

Perkins says he's called police about the issue in the past.

"When [the officer and I] were standing there, cars [were] going by 60 mph," Perkins said.

Chauncey Moody says he was even promised more patrols.

"They've lied to me," said Moody. "They told me they were going to do something, and they didn't do it."

Moody fears someone will have to be killed before the city will add more signage and enforce the speed limit. Early Monday morning, Edmond Memorial sophomore Chelsea Isaacs was waiting for the school bus when she was nearly killed.

"Right when I turned my back, bam," said Chelsea. "I got hit and then I just remember the headlights really."

Chelsea blacked out in a ditch, but Moody's four-legged buddy named Jake knew something wasn't right.

"My dog started raising a lot of cane," Moody said.

Jake led Moody to Chelsea. 911 was called, Chelsea was rushed to the hospital and Jake became the neighborhood hero.

"That's the first thing that snapped me into conciseness was hearing the dog bark," said Chelsea.

Chelsea is recovering at home with the help of pain medication. She has a sore back and neck.
