NORMAN, Oklahoma -

Norman Police arrested a 17-year-old for murder following a week long investigation into the death of 20-year-old Nicholas Williams.

Williams was gunned down inside his home at the Quorom Apartments on September 14, 2013.

Investigators said burglary was the motive for the crime and the juvenile suspect thought no one was home at the time of the break-in.

When Williams confronted the burglar in his home, the burglar pulled a gun and shot him.

Williams' family talked exclusively with News 9's Lisa Monahan about their pursuit for justice following this tragedy.

"We were robbed," Dorcia Barnett said the suspect stole her son," our family is torn and there is a deep rip in my heart."

As Barnett and her daughter Jasmine Roberts sorted through old family photos, they pointed out how the memories are all that's left of their loved one.

"He was definitely a momma's boy to the heart," Barnett said.

Roberts, who described her relationship with her brother as "extremely close," said she is still in shock.

"I didn't believe it and I still to this very day do not believe it," Roberts said.

Both agree the recent arrest of a suspect provides some relief during their time of grief.

Norman Police arrested the 17-year-old on Friday, September 20. Investigators say the juvenile lived in the same apartment complex and broke in through a glass sliding door.

When Williams confronted the suspect, he was shot. Barnett says her son did not know the suspect or any of suspect's associates.

"There are rumors that this was gang-related, but Nicholas was not in a gang, never been around a gang and didn't hang out with gang members. It was not his character," Barnett said.

Instead, they describe Nicholas Williams as a well-dressed, fun loving, hardworking young man who was getting ready to leave for the military before his life was cut short.

"I just don't know where I will go from here without him," Barnett said she feels lost. "I don't even know how to move on."

Together, as a family, they're prepared to see things through to honor Nicholas Williams.

"Justice will be served and we won't stop until it's done," Roberts said.

Norman Police expect the suspect to be charged as an adult with first-degree murder. Until then, officer cannot release the suspect's identity because he is a juvenile.

The Cleveland County District Attorney's Office told News 9 it expects charges to be filed by mid-week.

A memorial website has been set up for Nicholas Williams. Click here to see how you can donate to help the family.
