The third week of the high school football season is upon us and there are plenty of exciting games on the slate. However, it will be tough to top the great games we've seen so far, highlighted by last week's dramatic finish in the Backyard Bowl between Jenks and Union.

As usual, we need your help to gather the scores from all the games across the state each week. There are plenty of ways to do that, so help us out and send us the score from whichever game you're at each week.

With so many exciting games this weekend, we're previewing some of the best matchups across the state.

Hennessey at Kingfisher

One of the biggest games of the week will take place in Kingfisher, as the No. 2 team in Class 3A takes on No.3 in Class 2A, Hennessey.

Kingfisher has rolled through its first two games against Guymon and Chandler, determined to return to the state championship game where it fell, 28-21 to Blanchard last season. Last season, Kingfisher's 21-20 win at Hennessey was the closet game the Yellow Jackets played all season until falling in the state championship game.

The Yellow Jackets are led by Landon Nault, who is fifth in 3A with 121.5 rushing yards per game with seven touchdowns after a 2,000-yard season in 2012.

On defense, Ben Reid (11 tackles) and Triston Ransom (10 tackles) are the key difference makers.

Hennessey's two-year reign on top of Class 2A came to an end last season, but the Eagles are off to a strong start in 2013, posting wins over Christian Heritage Academy and Jones.

Quarterback Dylan Hatchel makes the Eagles click on offense. He's averaged 118 yards on the ground through two games, good for fifth in 2A. He's also thrown for 197 yards in the first two games, accounting for eight touchdowns on the ground and through the air.

Running back William Arndt offers a nice complement to Hatchel in the backfield. He's rushed for 95.5 yards per game so far this season.

Defensively, the Eagles are led by Joel Martinez and Abraham Ortega, each of whom has racked up 17 tackles this season. Martinez has four sacks among those 17 tackles.

While this game won't have a big impact on district races, it's a terrific matchup between state titles contenders, something that doesn't always happen this early in the season.

Union at Broken Arrow

Traditional power house Tulsa Union will try to avoid an unheard of 0-3 start to the season but that task will not be an easy one.

The No. 4 Redskins travel to face unbeaten and second-ranked Broken Arrow in a rematch of the 2011 state title game and a battle between the state's two largest high schools.

These two star-studded teams will have a Bedlam feel about it, as well, with Union stars and OU commits Jeffery Mead and Carson Meier facing off with BA's pair of OSU commits Gyasi Akem and Devon Thomas.

Union lost its season opener to Texas power Desoto 44-20 and then fell last week in a heartbreaker to defending state champion Jenks 20-16. Broken Arrow opened the season with a convincing 37-16 victory against Owasso and followed it up with a 24-17 win against traditional Arkansas power Bentonville.

Norman North vs. Westmoore

Expect a high-scoring affair when Norman North (1-1) hosts Westmoore (2-0) at 7:00 p.m. Friday night. On one hand, you have gunslinger David Cornwell, North quarterback and Alabama commit. On the other, you have Westmoore receiver Dahu Green, who virtually commands double coverage.

The Jaguars are coming off a sweep of their fellow Moore schools, most recently topping Southmoore 31-13. Green had 68 yards receiving and caught two of quarterback Bryson Lee's three scores. But an overlooked bright spot is the Jags defense, which has surrendered just 19 points through two games.

The Timberwolves, who returned just one defensive starter from a year ago, will try to out-gun opponents this year. They were able to get past Del City a week ago 41-38 but that marked the second straight week North has given up 38 points.
