A man remains in serious condition at an Oklahoma City hospital after he was stabbed and found lying in the street outside a restaurant.

The man was riding the bus from Arkansas to Colorado. The bus made a stop in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, September 11, so the man walked to Sonic at Classen and Sheridan to get something to eat. The man said he'd purchased his food and was walking back to the bus station when he was attacked around 8:50 p.m.

The victim told police two men approached him, and one of them pulled out a hunting or throwing knife, and stabbed him. The victim was stabbed in the chest, and also received a cut under his right eye.

The men ran off, and the victim stumbled to Sheridan and Shartel where he collapsed in the street in front of the restaurant Chopt. He managed to call police on his cell phone, tell them what happened and give them his location.

Before officers arrived, a cleaning crew heard the victim calling for help. They stayed with him until police reached the scene.

The victim was taken to OU Medical Center and rushed to surgery. Before he was taken to the hospital, he told police he thought the suspects had stolen his wallet, but officers later discovered he'd left it at Sonic after he purchased his food. The suspects did, however, steal other property from the victim.

Police were able to obtain surveillance video from nearby security cameras. They identified a suspect, 31-year-old Thomas Powell. He was arrested the day after the stabbing and booked into the Oklahoma County jail.

The victim remains in serious condition.
