Dean Goes One-On-One With Bill Young

Bill Young is many things. Many good things. Among descriptions, I’ll go first with kind, wise and believable.

I spoke with the former OSU star player, star student and star coach — at least a star in many minds until Mike Gundy gave him the heave-ho after another season where the Cowboys defense couldn’t match its explosive offense — a couple times on Monday.  

The well-respected veteran coach was not reluctant to talk about the sordid allegations against his alma mater as presented by SI.com. Especially, when I asked him about the man who may be the central figure in an ultimate decision the NCAA may make regarding the fate of the Cowboy program.

The hue-and-cry continues to declare that 85 percent of the eye-popping accusations occurred outside the four-year window allowed by the NCAA’s Statute of Limitations clause. However, a sobering set of facts worth noting includes that 15 percent of these allegations are not something to disregard, that Mike Gundy was named head coach in January 2005 and that the damning accusations involving former OSU assistant Joe DeForest took place just two years ago.

With that in mind, Coach Young and I conversed.
