RedHawks Fall To Memphis

The Memphis Redbirds scored six runs in the first inning and held on for a 7-3 win against the Oklahoma City RedHawks Saturday in front of 7,913 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Redbirds (69-73) took a 2-0 lead in the four-game series, which will close out the regular season for the playoff-bound RedHawks (80-62).

Memphis entered the game tied with Omaha for the PCL American Northern Division lead. The American Southern Division champion RedHawks will play the winner of the American Northern Division in the first round of the PCL playoffs starting Sept. 4.

Memphis scored six runs on six hits in the top of the first inning, including a two-run homer by Greg Garcia for the early commanding 6-0 lead.

Jimmy Paredes tripled to lead off the bottom of the first inning for Oklahoma City. George Springer hit a sac fly to right field to bring home Paredes for the RedHawks' first run of the night.

Che-Hsuan Lin homered into the left field bleachers to lead off the bottom of the third inning for the RedHawks. Springer singled to center to load the bases for the RedHawks and Brandon Laird followed with a sac fly to cut Memphis' lead to 6-3 in the third inning.

A solo home run by Chad Huffman extended Memphis' lead to 7-3 in the eighth inning.

Memphis starting pitcher Scott McGregor (6-10) earned the win, allowing three runs and seven hits over 6.0 innings.

RedHawks starter David Martinez (0-2) allowed six runs and six hits in the first inning and was charged with the loss. Eric Berger replaced Martinez on the mound and held Memphis without a run or hit over 4.0 innings of relief. Rhiner Cruz held Memphis scoreless and allowed one run over 2.0 innings. Wade LeBlanc closed out the game for the RedHawks, pitching the final two innings.

Oklahoma City continues its four-game series against Memphis at 6:05 p.m. Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
