A man says his roommate threatened, harassed, and demanded money from him, before shooting him in the buttocks as he tried to flee the house.

The victim told police he'd lived with Jose Salome Arevalo, 42, for about a month at a home on S.E. 23rd Street near Santa Fe. He said Arevalo often harassed him and demanded money from him. He also accused Arevalo of walking into his room and firing a gun, just to scare him.

The victim said on August 25, Arevalo walked into his bedroom while he was watching television, waved a gun, and threatened to hurt the victim if he didn't give Arevalo money. The victim told Arevalo he didn't want any trouble, and he left the room and walked to the kitchen.

The victim said that's when Arevalo fired one shot toward him. The victim dropped to the floor to avoid being hit, but quickly got up and ran for the front door so he could leave.

The victim said Arevalo fired again in his direction, this time hitting him in the buttocks. The victim kept moving and eventually made his way to a hospital.

Police went to question Arevalo, who claimed he didn't shoot the victim and that he didn't even own a gun. He said the victim was shot after a fight with his wife.

Arevalo did admit to police that he'd been drinking that day.

Officers arrested Arevalo and booked him into the Oklahoma County jail for assault with a dangerous weapon.

The victim is expected to be all right.
