Congressman Jim Bridenstine presented the Civilian Marksmanship Program's Patriot award to retired 1st Sgt. Bob Hunley, of Bartlesville, Tuesday.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program was created by President Theodore Roosevelt, dedicated to training and education about firearms. In 2009, the group created the Patriot Award to honor veterans for their service to both country and community.

Honoree Bob Hunley does something really special.

"First Sergeant Bob Hunley does what is called the 'Street of Honor' in Bartlesville, when it comes to Memorial Day, and the Fourth of July, and Veterans Day, he lines his street with hundreds of American flags," Bridenstine said.

It includes American Flags and military flags, and flags to honor different units and states, and he does it all himself. News On 6 visited his Street of Honor last month, because we heard someone had stolen a few of his flags.

What we found was someone undeterred by someone else's thoughtlessness.

"I put these flags together for our soldiers, I want them to know they're not forgotten," Hunley said.

When Congressman Bridenstine heard about the story he recommended Hunley for the patriot award, and Hunley's wife, Bonnie couldn't agree more.

"He's one special person," she said.

A First Sergeant taking care of his troops--"That's what First Sergeants do," Hunley said.

Each month, Congressman Bridenstine honors a veteran with the "First District Veteran in the Spotlight Award."

Hunley was presented with that honor as well, Tuesday.
