Rain Raises Flooding Concern Across Northeastern Oklahoma

Flooding is a real concern Thursday across northeastern Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas.

The National Weather Service estimates rainfall amounts of 4 to 7 inches across Craig, Delaware, Nowata, Osage, Ottawa and Washington counties in Oklahoma and Chautauqua and Montgomery counties in Kansas early Thursday.

Thunderstorms left water covering Craig County roads in about 100 locations.  Craig County Emergency Management director Morris Bluejacket says it rained for about four solid hours overnight in parts of the county.

"It was unbelievable, there seemed to be no end to it," said Morris Bluejacket.

The ground is already saturated and Bluejacket says parts of the county got eight inches of rain from the most recent storms.

The state Department of Transportation says several highways are closed in Craig and Ottawa counties because of high water. 

• Highway 10 - 4 miles east of Lenapah [Nowata County]
• Highway 125 - 3 miles north of Fairland [Ottawa County]
• Highway 69A - 1 mile north of Miami [Ottawa County]

The NWS has issued Flood Warnings and a Flood Watch across the region through Friday morning.

News On 6 meteorologist Michael Grogan says showers will continue into Thursday afternoon raising concerns of flash flooding.

Thunderstorms that produced a lot of lightning in the Tulsa area overnight are moving east into Arkansas and Missouri.
