A police standoff of several hours ended peacefully Saturday night in Sand Springs. Deputy Chief of Police Mike Carter said his department was called in at about 8:45 p.m. to a home near Pratt Elementary School after a man threatened to harm himself.

A combined SWAT Team from Sand Springs, Sapulpa and Bixby was called to the house where the man was known to have weapons, Carter said.

Police got the man to go for a mental health evaluation at about midnight.

"We are very glad that the officers were able to take him into custody without incident, and there were no injuries," Carter said.

"That's always our goal, and that's why we call out the SWAT Team, to make sure that we can do it as safely as possible for the officers, the citizens, as well as the individual that's involved."
