A fire destroyed multiple units of a northwest OKC apartment complex, Saturday night.

Dozens of residents at the Mayridge apartments were able to make it out safely after the fire broke out. Many say that's thanks to a woman from a nearby apartment complex who banged on their doors.

When crews arrived there was a heavy fire in the attic. There were also reports of multiple people trapped inside. Investigators received a report of a possible methamphetamine lab.

Multiple apartment units on the 2nd floor were engulfed in flames. One couple tells News 9 they lost everything.

"He opened the door and then all of a sudden all this smoke just came rolling in. One of our neighbors had fire coming out of their apartment," said resident, Chrystal Branch.

"And when we ran down the stairs you could just see stuff falling from the top of the breezeway it was coming down already," said resident, Paul Zobisch.

Investigators have not yet determined the exact cause of the blaze, but they are still on scene. News 9 is told one firefighter injured his back fighting the fire.

Fire crews got one elderly man out of a first floor apartment who breathed in a lot smoke. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
