RedHawks Win On Wild Pitch

A wild pitch by Iowa Cubs pitcher Henry Rodriguez scored Oklahoma City RedHawk George Springer in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 4-3 RedHawks win Monday in front of 3,609 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Springer tripled on a line drive to center field to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning for Oklahoma City (60-50). With Brandon Laird batting, Rodriguez's wild pitch got behind Iowa catcher J.C. Boscan and Springer scored standing up for the walk-off win in the season finale between the teams.

The win gave the RedHawks a 4-0 series sweep of the I-Cubs (51-59) and pulled them even (8-8) in the season series. Monday marked the ninth one-run game between the teams this season.

The win also was Oklahoma City's fourth-straight overall and matched the team's best record of the season at 10 games above .500 (22-12).

Springer paced the RedHawks with two hits – a double and triple – and added two stolen bases. Ruben Sosa batted in two runs for Oklahoma City and Che-Hsuan Lin scored two runs.

The RedHawks took the first lead of the back-and-forth game in the second inning.

Lin's sac bunt pushed Jimmy Paredes to third base and Marwin Gonzalez to second base with one out.

A sacrifice bunt by Cody Clark followed to score Paredes for a 1-0 lead.

Iowa tied the game in the fourth inning when Ty Wright led off the top of the frame with a solo home run to left field.

In the bottom of the fourth, a single to second base by Ruben Sosa scored Lin for a 2-1 RedHawks lead.

Iowa took the lead in the eighth inning when the I-Cubs scored two runs. A RBI triple by Donny Murphy tied the game, 2-2. A RBI single to right field by Ty Wright scored Murphy for a 3-2 Iowa advantage.

Lin doubled the get on base in the bottom of the eighth. A sac bunt by Cody Clark advanced Lin to third and he scored on a sac bunt by Sosa to tie the game, 3-3.

RedHawks starting pitcher Brad Peacock threw seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits, walking one and striking out three. He retired 11 of the final 13 batters he faced in the no-decision.

Oklahoma City reliever Jason Stoffel (5-1) got the win, throwing 1.1 innings, allowing one hit and walking two.

Rodriguez (0-1) took the loss for Iowa, allowing two hits and two runs in 1.1 innings.

Oklahoma City's 12-game homestand continues at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday against Reno at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The game opens a four-game series between the teams.
