Our neighbors to the Northeast are dealing with a sensitive issue right now, and I'm interested to see what you think.

A group of citizens is pressing the Tulsa City Council to change the name of the main drag in Tulsa's burgeoning downtown arts and entertainment district, which has since statehood been named Brady Street, center of the Brady District.

Brady would be Tate Brady, a wealthy Tulsa businessmen back in early statehood days; one of Tulsa's founding fathers in fact. That's why his name is so prominent in Tulsa. Brady Street, the Brady Theater, the Brady Mansion, the whole Brady District.

But Tate Brady was apparently a Ku Klux Klan member and some believe he helped instigate the deadly Tulsa race riot of 1921. Is that the kind of history you want to wrap your downtown's growth around?

Still, Tulsa has a lot of equity in the "Brady" brand, a century's worth. It's very well known in the region. And the business owners in the Brady Arts District have already said they will NOT be changing the district's name.

Changing the name of Brady Street seems secondary at that point.
