A LeFlore County woman and her grandson from Oologah are safe after spending nearly 12 stormy hours on Cavanal Hill near Poteau.

LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale says Sarah Alan, 66, and Lance Bartleson, 10, were reported missing Tuesday about 9 p.m. after riding an all-terrain vehicle up Cavanal Hill.

Cavanal Hill is nearly 2,400 feet above sea level.

Seale said deputies, emergency management personnel and others called off their search as the storms moved in late Tuesday. It resumed early Wednesday.

Seale says searchers found the pair on the back side of the hill just before 8 a.m. He says both were cold, tired and wet but were otherwise okay.

Seale says a flat tire on the ATV stranded Alan and Bartleson who did not have a cell phone.

He says the 10-year-old did offer one piece of advice, "Don't ride an ATV with Grandma."
