Insurance companies continue pulling coverage from homeowners who filed storm-damage claims.

Dozens of our viewers posted on our Facebook page about their experiences with insurance companies in the area.

We first started asking questions about this after receiving tips about insurance companies dropping families from coverage after they've filed multiple claims. Turns out, that's the law on Oklahoma's books. If you file multiple claims, the insurance company can decide not to keep you on board.

Our Facebook page was flooded with dozens of stories from viewers who've had the same problem dropped by their insurance and having issues getting another one.

Our phones are ringing too.

Consumer Advocate Joe Carson says it's nothing new, but the practice seems to defeat the purpose of having homeowners insurance in the first place. This has been going on for years in Oklahoma.

Carson says the problem can only be fixed with legislative action and adopt stricter regulations on insurance companies that some other states have.

The Insurance Commissioner's Office tells News 9 there has been mention of improving consumer protection by increased the number of claims someone would have to file before the insurance company could drop a client. Those talks are in the earliest stages.
