Police Arrest Inmate Who Escaped From Union City Jail

The search for an Oklahoma Department of Corrections escapee is now over. Oklahoma City police confirmed they took Kristopher Johnson into custody Tuesday night.

The search for an Oklahoma Department of Corrections escapee is now over. Oklahoma City police confirmed they took Kristopher Johnson into custody Tuesday night.

According to police, both Johnson and a woman were taken into custody after they were found in a home in a neighborhood in southwest Oklahoma City just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Johnson escaped from the Union City Community Corrections Facility on July 7. He was there on drug charges.

An officer pulled over a car Monday afternoon at Western and Stracka Terrace. The officer realized the man behind the wheel, identified as Kristopher Johnson, was an escapee. That's when Johnson took off in a dark gray Nissan Titan. Police later determined the car was stolen.

Police lost Johnson in a neighborhood near S.W. 78th Street and Penn. Police found the stolen car in a neighborhood near S.W. 81st Street and Douglas Drive, which is just southwest of Interstate 240 and Western. Officers swarmed the area. Police believed Johnson was hiding in a house in that area.

Tuesday night, officers were able to locate Johnson. He was hiding in that house, along with a woman. 

It was believed that Johnson was armed with a gun. However, officers have not located a gun at the home.

Residents in the neighborhood were not allowed to go back into their homes for nearly six hours, as officers searched for Johnson.
