Several people were rushed to the hospital following a head-on collision near Interstate 35 and Main in Norman back in May. At the time of the crash, Norman Police thought one of the drivers involved may have been drinking.

Now the family of the alleged victim is questioning why the suspected drunken driver is still on the streets.

Claudette Adams did not witness the crash, only the aftermath. Her brother, Larry Parks, was severely injured in the head-on collision.

"I'm very disappointed in our system that someone like that is still driving around."

Adams says her brother had a broken pelvis and other injuries that he is still being treated for. "He had other plans, hopes, dreams just like anyone else and it's going nowhere now."

Parks was a passenger in the car that was struck by the suspected drunken driver. The drivers of both cars, along with Parks, were hospitalized. No arrests have been made.

Norman Police collected a blood sample from the suspected drunken driver. Adams claims she was told last week the blood work had not been assigned to an OSBI criminologist, and she is worried because the suspected drunken driver has a criminal history of drug and alcohol abuse.

"This is going to define his life from now on, and she is responsible and it doesn't seem like anyone is really doing anything about it."

Jessica Brown, a spokesperson for the OSBI, says the agency does not assign cases to toxicologists.

"We work the cases in the order we get them."

Brown said with it being an injury accident, it is possible there will be additional testing.

The Norman Police Department says the case is still under investigation.

"We haven't dropped the ball here," said Capt. Tom Easley. "We are doing our job. Unfortunately, we rely on other folks for the scientific evidence. Once we get that this thing, we'll start to roll."

Until then, the case is open and Capt. Easley says it's important to remember these things can take some time. "When we get the results is anybody's guess, but at least there is some progress."

Larry Parks and the driver of the car he was in are still going through treatments for their injuries. As for the suspected drunken driver, that person's name is not being released because no arrests have been made.
