Man Killed, Woman Injured When Car Hits Power Pole In SW OKC

A man has died after being trapped in an SUV early Thursday morning when the vehicle struck a power pole near S.W. 22nd Street and Portland.

The crash happened just after midnight. It's not known what caused the accident, but a female passenger was ejected from the SUV when it smashed into the pole and overturned. She was rushed to the hospital and her condition is not known.

The crash knocked the pole to the ground, and live wires surrounded the vehicle. Emergency workers could not rescue 28-year-old Joseph Schiebert, the male driver, until OG&E crews turned off the power. After several minutes, paramedics were finally able to pull Schiebert from the wreckage and rush him to the hospital. He later died from his injuries.

The name of the female victim has not been released.
