A trooper shot a man in the leg during a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at about 1 a.m. at 11th and Garnett near I-44.

The OHP said the trooper had just stopped the driver for operating a van with an expired license tag. The trooper says the man reached for the trooper's gun as the trooper arrested him.

The trooper fired one shot at the man, who got back in the van and drove to the Executive Inn in the 11300 block of East 11th Street.

The man ran into an occupied room on the second floor. The person staying in the room called 911. Tulsa Police helped the OHP take the man into custody and EMSA took him to the hospital.

The OHP is looking for a passenger in the van who ran away during the scuffle.

The OHP said the trooper was treated at the hospital for a hand injury and was then released. The OHP says the driver of the van did not have life-threatening injuries.
