An 8-year-old boy was killed after he fell off a parade float in Edmond Thursday morning.

According to Edmond police, it happened when the LibertyFest parade was over. The float was headed towards the staging area at Ayers Street and Baumann Avenue. Authorities say the child fell or jumped off the float, that's when he was run over by the back wheels of the trailer.

The boy was transported to the OU Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Robby Allen is the President of Edmond's LibertyFest this year. He says nothing like this has ever happened during one of their parades before.

"This is our 41st parade on record, and we've never had a serious injury or accident even requiring medical transportation, much less an incident like what happened this morning," Allen said.

Allen says the group was with a martial arts group in Edmond, which had the LibertyFest appearance slated on their calendar.

Allen told News 9 that all the people who enter the parade have to have licensed drivers in good standing and even offered a pre-parade briefing earlier this week.

Despite this tragic accident, LibertyFest will go on with all their scheduled activities.
