An apartment building housing 16 units was heavily damaged in a fire early Tuesday. Tulsa Fire got the call at about 4:45 a.m. to the River Park Apartments near 79th and Wheeling.

When firefighters pulled up smoke and flames was seen coming from the roof of the building.

Fire officials say firefighters made sure everyone was out before they attacked the fire. Because of the fire had gotten into the roof of the building, firefighters had to back out of the burning building and used a ladder truck to douse the fire.

Tulsa Fire says a mattress in one of the apartments caught fire and it quickly spread.  Officials believe a lit cigarette was the cause.

Red Cross was called to assist those impacted by the fire.

No one was injured.
