We're learning more about a murder just outside of the town of Amber, Okla., just north of Chickasha.

A Grady County man was arrested after confessing to beating up his girlfriend and killing a 24-year-old woman.

Along a rural road in Grady County just outside the small town of Amber, crime scene tape was still up Friday, at the home where deputies say Steven Thompson attacked his fiancée and shot and killed her friend.

Grady County deputies arrested Steven Thompson outside his home Thursday morning, about 12 hours after investigators say he beat his fiancée, Katie Garner, and killed 24-year-old Sara Maisano. Garner told investigators Thompson beat both of them with his fists and the butt of a shotgun.

"The girl they put on the helicopter looked like his girlfriend, but it was hard to tell. Her face didn't look real good," neighbor Greg Mosier said.

Mosier saw Garner airlifted to the hospital. News 9 is told she has a fractured skull. Maisano's body was found in the back bedroom. Investigators say she'd been shot in the face. Mosier says he was set to go on a fishing trip with Thompson the night of the murder.

"I told him he could take his girlfriend. He let me know they weren't getting along real well. He wasn't mad about it, [he] just let me know they weren't getting along real well, and she wouldn't be going," Mosier said.

Investigators said Thompson was upset about something the two women were doing. We're told a relative talked Thompson out of killing himself and his fiancée. He eventually called 911 and surrendered to deputies on his front porch.

"You know when you meet people, you try to judge their character. He seemed like a very respectful young man, very nice. I hadn't heard him speak angry at all," Mosier said.

Thompson remains in the Grady County Jail facing murder charges. News 9 has also learned both women work for Norman Regional.

Norman Regional Health System told News 9, "Our thoughts are with the families of Norman regional employees, Sara Maisano and Katie Garner during this tragic and difficult time."

Additional details will not be released pending preliminary findings of the medical examiner.

The Norman Police Department has confirmed with News 9 that Sara Maisano is the daughter of police chief Jim Maisano. They have not released a statement at this time.
