OKLAHOMA CITY -

A robber is on the run after attacking a convenience store clerk early Friday morning near S.W. 59th Street and May Avenue.

The robber walked into the Circle K around 4 a.m. The clerk wasn't standing behind the counter at the time. The robber walked up to him and hit him on the head with a 2x4 piece of wood.

The clerk was knocked out. The suspect tried to open the cash register but could not, so he picked up the register and ran out of the store with it. It's not known how much money he took.

After the robber left, witnesses called police and helped the clerk. The clerk had a bloody wound and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The robber has not been caught. Police have not released a description of him.
