A food fight at the Tulsa County jail early Wednesday prompted a response from deputies and Tulsa Police.

Major Shannon Clark says jail deputies were feeding about 45 inmates in the general population area at 5:45 a.m. when one of the inmates threw a chair. Other inmates then started throwing their food trays.

Clark said the sheriff's office Special Operations Team was training nearby and responded along with Tulsa Police.

He said when deputies made a show of force, the food fight stopped.

There was no damage to the jail, except for a large amount of food scattered across the general population area.

Major Clark said two inmates got into a scuffle and sustained minor injuries during the incident. He says both were treated at the jail and returned to their cells.

Clark said jail staff trains for this type of incident and the Special Operations Team was called to assist because of its non-lethal tool arsenal.

He said Tulsa Police were not needed.

An investigation into the disturbance continues.
