After the Moore tornado, hundreds of animals were rescued and taken to shelters. Wednesday was the last day for owners to claim those animals.

With just hours left before the shelter closes Ally Mills was at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds looking one last time for her cat Abby Normal.

"I don't want to give up," said Mills. "I've been all over, posted her picture."

Unfortunately, Abby was not one of the dozen plus cats at the shelter. It's a sad predicament say shelter organizers, who see a couple of families come in every day looking for their animals. But they aren't here. Still, there are other animals who wait and no one ever comes to get them. At the Animal Resource Center there are still about 50 dogs and cats.

"We all wonder, these are such nice animals," said Barbara Lewis who is in charge of the shelter at the ARC. "We feel sorry for the animals and we feel sorry for the families that have lost them and we wish they could get back together but we know it isn't reality."

Still, for Leo, a cat at the ARC, that would not be his reality. Parker Brown came Wednesday afternoon, looking for his cousin's cat. She asked him to check before the shelter closed at 5.

"Took me five minutes from the phone call, I wasn't about to lose this cat," said Brown.

Leo was clearly injured in the storm and had to have his eye removed. But this day he's finally going home.

"It was a very happy ending, I was so glad we got him," said Brown.

Between the three shelters there are still about a hundred pets that have been claimed and now will be put up for adoption.

An adoption fair will be Sunday at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds from 1 p.m. Until 6 p.m.

Animals put up for adoption will be spayed or neutered. Adoption fees will be $70 with an approved application.
