Your 2 Cents: Licensing Expert Storm Trackers, Experts And Media

Posted: Updated:

Tornado chasing tour companies are coming under some scrutiny after our recent tornadoes that killed three weather scientists and an amateur chaser.

I say it's time to license the expert storm trackers, scientists, media and government spotters, give them special markings and lights and require other motorists to give them the right of way similar to ambulances.

David from Prague is skeptical: "The only thing that licensing of storm experts will do is provide another income stream for the state."

Cindy writes: "Amateurs, get outta the way & let them work!"

But Mary from Norman says: "No one is more or less entitled than another to observe tornadoes."

Mary, do I have as much right to walk up to a house fire as firefighters do? "Keep those hoses out of my way I'm trying to watch this house burn down!"

Sheila from Purcell says: "Extreme Tornado Tours is only making a game out of something that is in fact quite deadly."

Dale argues: "..making money off mother nature and natural disasters is nothing new. How much of an increase in advertising revenue has News 9 seen in the last three weeks?"

Dale, you're dead wrong. Wall to wall coverage means no commercial revenue. News 9 lost hundreds of thousands of dollars during the storms.

Finally, Marvetta writes: "If these thrill seekers want to spend money for an up close and personal view, I say fine...first set aside a few dollars to help those of us who have had about all the "up close and personal" we can stand!"

I'm Kelly Ogle and that's YOUR 2 Cents.
