A man is behind bars after police found meth, marijuana and a BB gun in his car during a traffic stop in southwest Oklahoma City.

On June 3 around 11:15 p.m., the officer pulled over a vehicle at S.W. Grand Boulevard and Penn. The officer reported he was waiting behind the car at a traffic light when the driver suddenly sped away after the light turned green. The car also did not have a tag light.

The officer approached the driver, identified as 48-year-old James Kenneth Clifford. The officer noticed Clifford appeared very nervous and was sweating heavily. Clifford reportedly said he didn't mean to speed off, but the car belonged to his wife and he wasn't accustomed to driving it.

According to the police report, Clifford admitted he'd been drinking a beer in the car. He also said he had a BB gun under the seat and began to reach for it.

The officer told Clifford to stop and get out of the car, for safety reasons. Clifford gave the officer permission to search the car, and that's when the officer found several drug pipes, baggies filled with meth and marijuana, and more than $6,000 in cash.

The officer also looked up Clifford's criminal record and discovered he had a previous conviction for DUI.

Clifford was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of drug possession, drug possession with intent, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a firearm during a felony, drug proceeds, and speeding too fast for conditions.
