The search for the man started Deep Fork River in the area of N.E. 178th Street & N. Peebly Road around 4 p.m. Monday. After ending the search Monday night, the fire department says dive teams will be back out Tuesday morning.

The high water due to recent rain made the search difficult for rescuers. Monday night, engineers shut down water coming into the river so it's safe enough for those teams.

Rescue crews searched the water for hours Monday for a 28-year-old man who jumped into the river. The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office says the man was drinking with friends. At the time, the water was flowing quickly, about 10 to 12 mph.

"Witnesses that saw the victim get swept underwater, it's what we call a hydraulic, the water's just swirling," said Mike Walker, OKC Fire Department.

Water flows into this river from Lake Arcadia and engineers have gradually shut off the water to make conditions safer for rescue crews.

This is a popular spot for young people, they call it Bull Head Falls and first responders have a warning for those who frequent this part of the river.

"It's not safe at all, anytime you have water running at this level," said Walker. "Even though there's a thrill factor involved, it's just not worth the risk."

Authorities have not released the man's name.
