Oklahoma Man Sentenced to 25 Years For Role In Football Player's Murder

DURANT, Oklahoma -

A man charged for his role in the slaying of a former Denison High School football player is to serve a 22 years of a 25-year prison sentence.

Three years were suspended by the judge.

Authorities initially charged 29-year-old Duncan Metcalf with first-degree murder for the 2011 shooting death of Dresean Jaron Jones. Metcalf entered a blind plea to second-degree murder and was sentenced Friday.

Metcalf, of Calera, Okla., was one of four people charged following an investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Bryan County Sheriff's Office.

According to an affidavit, Wesley Dylan Kelley, 20, paid Jones $500 for marijuana and when Jones failed to provide it, Kelley went to Metcalf for help. They then met with Harold Ray Hass, 24, and Alora Dannin Hix, 22.

The Durant Daily Democrat reports after a marijuana deal went bad, a female lured Jones from Texas to Cartwright by promising sexual favors. Police say Hass fatally shot Jones in the back.

Harold Hass pleaded guilty to first-degree murder last year and was sentenced to life in prison. Wesley Kelley pleaded guilty in 2012 to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Hix was charged with second-degree murder and during a jury trial last year, she was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter, and per the jury’s recommendation, she was sentenced to four years in prison.

The newspaper reported Jones' mother said Metcalf was a heartless coward who had no regard for human life.

"I pray that you spend your miserable life behind bars thinking about the lives you've ruined," La Tonya Walker said in a prepared statement to the court. "I hope the devil has a special place in hell for you to burn."
