Former Oklahoma Sooners basketball star Mookie Blaylock is in critical condition after a head-on automobile collision in suburban Atlanta on Friday.

Blaylock was driving in Jonesboro on Friday when he crashed. He was airlifted to the Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition, and was taken off life support shortly after 8 p.m. ET and remains in guarded but critical condition.

Blaylock was an All-Star in 1994 with the Atlanta Hawks, for whom he played seven seasons.

He began his career as the No. 12 overall pick out of Oklahoma in the 1989 NBA draft for the New Jersey Nets, where he played his first three seasons. Blaylock retired with the Golden State Warriors, whom he also played three years for, after 13 NBA seasons.

He averaged 13.5 points, 6.7 assists and 2.3 steals over 889 games. He made the NBA's all-defensive teams six times in the 1990s.

At Oklahoma, Blaylock helped the Sooners to reach the 1988 NCAA title game, where they lost to Kansas.

Blaylock has twin sons playing football for the University of Kentucky.
