Dozens of our military veterans traded in their guns for putters for a chance to golf with professionals. The Annual Patriot Cup in Owasso was a huge success.

The event continues to grow and is gaining national attention.

It is the fourth year for the Patriot Cup. Each year it draws top names in golf and more and more spectators. On this Memorial Day, patriotism shines throughout the golf course as people wear our nation's colors in pride - and Old Glory flies high in the sky.

More than 5,000 people are golfing with a purpose at this year's Patriot Cup.

"We're here to honor our fallen and our wounded warriors from years past," said Tony Biata, Patriot Golf Day director.

The Patriot Cup benefits the Folds of Honor Foundation which focuses on supporting families of military men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Major Ed Pulido is with the foundation. He's also an Army veteran and lost his leg while fighting at war.

"This is my new life, and I'm just so glad that the American people didn't leave me behind on the field of battle and more importantly in the home front," Pulido said.

The Folds of Honor Foundation has given away more than 4,000 scholarships to kids of military members killed or disabled while serving our country.

Both of Major Pulido's daughters are lucky recipients, and this isn't something he takes lightly.

"It's honorable, but more importantly it honors the sacrifice that we have made for our freedom," said Major Ed Pulido of the Folds Of Honor Foundation.

This fun golfing event continues to grow. This year, 39 vets got the chance to play alongside professionals like PGA stars Rickie Fowler and Zac Johnson.

"Most of the people that are here are great Americans that believe in our country and believe in supporting our military, and through the game of golf they get to enjoy the company of these great tour professionals and watch them play," said Patriot Golf Day Director Tony Biata.

Organizers say they're humbled that so many people continue to come each year to share their vision for making America better.

The competition will air on the golf channel later in the year.
