RedHawks Fall In Iowa

For the second straight night, the Iowa Cubs used an early four-run inning to lead to victory, defeating the Oklahoma City RedHawks 7-3 before 4,369 at Principal Park Saturday night.

Saturday's game started in very similar fashion to Friday's contest. Once again, the RedHawks hit a home run in the first inning to take an early lead. Brett Wallace knocked a two-run homer the opposite way out to left field to make it 2-0.

Although he didn't join the team until April 21, Wallace is now tied for the team lead with eight home runs.

Also like Friday, the I-Cubs notched an early four-run inning. This time it was in the second, when Iowa loaded the bases with none out. After a pop out, Luis Flores lined a two-run double to left field to tie the game.

A Logan Watkins RBI groundout put Iowa in front, and RedHawks catcher Carlos Perez committed a two-out throwing error on a bunt single by Brian Bogusevic to score the fourth run.

Iowa (21-25) got on the board in the again the sixth when Edwin Maysonet launched a two-run homer above the suites in left-center field. Two of Maysonet's three home runs this season have come against the RedHawks.

The RedHawks (27-20) cut the lead to 6-3 in the eighth when Wallace drove in his third run of the night on an RBI groundout.

The I-Cubs added another run in the eighth on an infield RBI single by Bogusevic. The former RedHawk finished 3-for-5 with three infield hits.

Iowa starting pitcher Brooks Raley (4-3) allowed three runs (two earned) over 6.1 innings to earn the win. The lefty scattered seven hits, struck out six, and walked three.

Asher Wojciechowski picked up his second consecutive loss for the RedHawks after allowing five runs (four earned) and seven hits in 5.1 innings. He finished strong, retiring 11 of his last 13 hitters. Wojciechowksi (1-2) walked two and recorded five strikeouts.

Casey Coleman followed Raley and pitched the final 2.2 innings, holding the RedHawks without a run or hit to earn his first save.

The RedHawks have now tied a season high with three-straight losses. They have dropped four of five games against Iowa this season after losing four times all of last year during the teams' season series.
