Single-Vehicle Wreck Kills 1 On Will Rogers Turnpike

A 25-year-old man is dead after he lost control of the car he was driving and struck a retaining wall on the Will Rogers Turnpike near the Big Cabin exit.

A 25-year-old man is dead after he lost control of the car he was driving and struck a retaining wall on the Will Rogers Turnpike near the Big Cabin exit on Sunday.

Due to massive injuries, Darren William Fournell, of Eufaula, was pronounced dead just before 5 p.m. His passenger, Jennifer Renee Newman, 29, of Eufaula, was transported to a Vinita hospital, treated and released.

The car, a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am, ended up on its side, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol's collision report said.

A westbound lane of the turnpike at mile-marker 280.5 was closed down for about two hours as crews cleaned up from the single-vehicle wreck.

According to the collision report, Fournell was not wearing a seat belt, but Newman was.
