Timothy McVeigh's Attorney Has Advice For Boston Bombing Suspect's Lawyer

Stephen Jones, the man who represented Murrah Federal Building bomber Timothy McVeigh, has some words of advice for the attorney who will represent Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev: Keep your cards close to your chest.

Prominent San Diego lawyer Judy Clark recently joined Tsarnaev's defense team. She has a history of representing high-profile, controversial defendants. She represented Ted Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber, as well as Atlanta Olympics bomber Eric Rudolph, and Susan Smith, the woman who drowned her two children.

News 9's Tammy Payne spoke to Jones Tuesday morning. Jones says it's possible for Tsarnaev to strike a deal avoiding the death penalty if prosecutors think he has information that's useful to the government. Jones says the defendant should keep that information to himself until prosecutors agree to a deal.

Tsarnaev has been charged with planting two bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The attack killed three people and injured more than 200 others.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Dzhokar's brother and the second suspect, was killed in a shootout with police.
